THE STUDENT BOOK COLLECTION CONTEST

WIN PRIZES FOR BOOKS IN YOUR COLLECTION OR IN YOUR IMAGINATION!
The Friends of the Mansfield Library present their annual Student Book Collection Contest.

There will not be a 2006 Student Book Collection Contest. Please check again in 2007!

Guidelines

Follow these rules to enter the competition.

  • The contest is open to all students regularly enrolled at The University of Montana who have not won in the past two years.
  • Submissions must be typed and include:
    1. Completed application form.
    2. A 500 word essay describing the collection you have or would like to have.
    3. An annotated bibliography of 25-50 titles. Each should be numbered. The original annotations, 50-100 words each, should describe the importance of each item to the collection. Annotations should not include plot summaries.

Judging Criteria

  • Collections will be judged by how well they represent a focus of interest and by how well the collector demonstrates knowledge of the subject.
  • The substance of the collection will be of prime importance in the judging.
  • Collections may contain up to but not more than fifty items, of which up to 10% may be non-book items that support the collection.
  • Judges reserve the right to make final decisions regarding prize amounts and award categories.


$600 in Prizes!

  • First Place: $375 cash from the Friends of the Library
  • Second Place: $125 Gift certificate from the University Bookstore
  • Third Place: $100 Gift certificate from Fact and Fiction

After preliminary judging, applicants will be notified by letter or telephone, and finalists will be asked to bring their essay (and collection, if they have one) to the Mansfield Library for the final judging.

Prizes will be presented at the annual Friends of the Library Spring Banquet.

In addition to the cash prizes, winners will also receive an honorary one-year membership in the Friends of the Library.

Winners will be required to permit the display of their essay and bibliography in the Library for approximately one month immediately following the contest at the Friends of the Library Annual Banquet April 13.

The committee will keep the complete application packet.

Applications are available at the Mansfield Library Administration office. Essays and bibliographies mut be turned in to the Administration office by March 10. Winners will be notified March 25.
