Salishan Languages, part 1

				updated 2-4-2002

The Salishan languages (Algonkian-Mosan), sometimes just called Salish,
comprise the Salishan branch of the Algonkian-Mosan family of languages. The
Salishan and Wakashan branches are both found in the northwestern part of the United
States and Canada, but the Wakashan languages are more closely related to the
Algonkian languages than to the Salishan languages. The Salishan languages include
Bella Coola, Comox, Halkomelem, Lushootseed (or Coast Salish), North Straits Salish,
Lillooet, Shuswap, Columbian, Colville-Okinagan, Spokane-Kalispel-Flathead, Thompson,
Tilamook, Tsamosan, and many more. Listed here are works dealing with many Salishan
languges, or those in which the particular language is not more narrowly defined.
