Spokane-Kalispel-Flathead

updated 10-20-2000 Spokane-Kalispel-Flathead (Algonkian-Mosan) belongs to the Salishan branch of the Algonkian-Mosan family of languages. Spokane is spoken in Washington state, and Kalispel is spoken in Washington, Idaho, and Montana. Flathead, also spoken in Montana, is considered by some to be a dialect of Kalispel. All three tongues are mutually intelligible, rendering them dialects of a single language by definition. Thompson

Thompson is spoken along the Fraser River in British Columbia. The native speakers call their language Nle?kepmxcin, which the Library of Congress has spelled Ntlakyapamuk. Twana

Upper Chehalis
