updated 4-29-2002 The Chinookan languages (Macro-Penutian) comprise the Chinookan sub- branch of the Penutian branch of the Macro-Penutian family of languages. The Chinookan languages include Cascade, Cathlascon, Clackamas, Clatsop, Kalapuya, Molele, Quileute, Wasko, and Watlala. Note that Chinook(an) was sometimes called Chee-Chinook, to distinguish it from Chinook Jargon, a pidgin. Items listed here include more than one Chinookan language. Clackamas was spoken until recently along the Columbia River in Washington and Oregon. It is believed that no speakers remain.
