updated 2-2-99 Middle English (Indo-Hittite), like Old English and Modern English, belongs to the Ingweonic sub-branch of the West Germanic sub-branch of the Germanic sub-branch of the Indo-European branch of the Indo-Hittite family of languages. Middle English is generally dated from 1100-1500 A.D. Middle English may be divided into Northern Middle English, West Midlands, East Midlands, and Southern Middle English. The dialect of London, on the border between the Southern and Midlands dialects, is the one that eventually developed into Modern English. Middle English was written with the Latin alphabet. 821.108 Auchinleck manuscript A898 The Auchinleck manuscript : National Library of Scotland Advocates' MS. 19.2.1 / with an introduction by Derek Pearsall & I.C.
