Indic Languages (Branch)

updated 9-15-2003 The Indic Branch (I-E) is a sub-branch of the Indo-Iranian sub-branch of the Indo-European branch of the Indo-Hittite family of languages. Numerous languages comprise this sub-branch, including Assamese, Bengali, Bhili, Bihari, Chattisgarhi, Dardic (which includes Kashmiri, Khowar, Kohistani, Romany -- the language of the Gypsies, and Shina), Gujarati, Hindi, Lahnda, Maldivian, Marathi, Nepali, Oriya, Pali, Panjabi, Rajasthani, Sinhalese, Sindhi, Urdu, and the Old Indic languages of Sanskrit and Vedic, as well as many minor languages.
