Hamitic

The Hamitic languages comprise one branch of the Afro-Asiatic family of languages. Languages on this page so far are Berber Languages, Coptic, Egyptian, Hausa, and Tamazight.

Berber Languages

updated 8-8-2003 The Berber languages (Afro-Asiatic) comprise one sub-branch of the Hamitic branch of the Afro-Asiatic family of languages. The following are Berber languages: Guanche, Kabyle, Libyan, Riffian, Shawia, Taselhait, Tamazight, and Tuareg. Egyptian

updated 1-29-2002 Egyptian (Afro-Asiatic) comprises the Egyptian sub-branch of the Hamitic branch of the Afro-Asiatic family of languages. Egyptian was the ancient language of the country of Egypt; it was written in 3 different writing systems : Hieroglyphic, Hieratic, and Demotic. Hausa

Tamazight

updated 9-6-2002 Tamazight (Afro-Asiatic), variously spelled and also called Central Shilha, belongs to the Berber sub-branch of the Hamitic branch of the Afro-Asiatic family of languages. Tamazight is spoken in Algeria and Morocco.
