updated 1-10-2002 LOGO developed as a dialect of LISP. Although LOGO is very user friendly, and thus can be learned by young children, it also is very powerful in that it allows the user to employ imaginative thinking. It thus has applications in programming courses and in symbolic computation. A much-publicized feature of LOGO is its "turtle," essentially a cursor, but it has both a position and a "heading" (which way it's facing) on the screen, so with a few simple directional commands, lines and shapes may be drawn. From the results, mathematical concepts may be grasped. There have been a number of dialects including Apple Logo, MIT Logo, TI LOGO, Atari LOGO, Commodore LOGO, IBM Logo, etc.; LSCI Logo was developed by Logo Computer Systems, Inc. 005.265 Bearden, Donna A648Lb A bit of LOGO magic RID: wln85-82918 ITEM #: log00001 005.133 Bearden, Donna L1115b The turtle's sourcebook RID: wln84-99268 ITEM #: log00002 005.133 Friendly, Michael L1115f Advanced logo RID: 87-5361 ITEM #: log00003 005.133 Harvey, Brian, 1949- L1115h Computer science Logo style RID: 85-7697 ITEM #: log00004 005.133 Logo in the schools L1115m RID: 85-8411 ITEM #: log00005 005.265 Moore, Margaret L A648Lm Logo discoveries RID: wln86-34101 ITEM #: log00006 005.265 Poirot, James L., 1939- A648Bp2 Forty easy steps to programming in BASIC and LOGO RID: wln86-78457 ITEM #: bsc00031 629.892 Robots for kids / edited by Allison Druin R6669 and James Hendler. - San Francisco : Morgan Kaufmann, 2000 RID: 00-22074 ITEM #: log00008 005.133 Watt, Daniel L1115w Learning with Logo RID: 83-2619 ITEM #: log00007 LOGO

updated 12-24-2001 Modula-2 was designed by Niklaus Wirth, in 1978. He had earlier designed first Pascal, and later the first Modula, both arising out of ALGOL. (All versions of Modula are included here.) Modula-2 programs can be divided into modules (program units capable of hiding some entities comprising them); thus some modules can make use of low-level computing languages, which may be necessary for a specific machine, without requiring the entire program to do so. 005.133 Ford, Gary M692f Modula-2 RID: 84-21972 ITEM #: mod00001 005.133 Gleaves, Richard M692g Modula-2 for Pascal programmers RID: 84-13888 ITEM #: mod00002 005.133 Joyce, Edward J.
