Nyanja

Ruanda

Sotho

updated 4-4-2003 Sotho (Niger-Kordofanian), also called Sesotho, belongs to the Strict Bantu sub-branch of the Bantoid sub-branch of the Benue-Congo sub-branch of the Niger- Congo branch of the Niger-Kordofanian family of languages. There are two major dialects, North(ern) Sotho and South(ern) Sotho. South Sotho, also called Sotho Proper, is spoken in Lesotho and South Africa. North Sotho, also called Pedi, is spoken in South Africa. Tswana is sometimes called Western Sotho and regarded as another dialect. Swahili

updated 10-31-2000 Swahili (Niger-Kordofanian), also called Kiswahili and Swaheli, belongs to the Strict Bantu sub-branch of the Bantoid sub-branch of the Benue-Congo sub-branch of the Niger-Congo branch of the Niger-Kordofanian family of languages. Swahili is used as a lingua franca in much of East Africa. Swahili is the official language of both Tanzania and Kenya; it is also spoken in Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, and Zaire. A dialect called Kingwana is spoken in Zaire. Swazi

Swazi is the national language of Swaziland; it is also spoken in South Africa. Swazi is particularly closely related to Zulu and Xhosa.
