Giving Opportunities
Your gifts help to create a stronger learning and research environment for The University of Montana students and faculty, and for the people of the State of Montana. Gifts for books, media, electronic resources, or archival collections make a difference each day to the Mansfield Library's 500,000 annual users.

We work in partnership with The University of Montana Foundation and the Friends of the Mansfield Library to encourage gifts to support those served by the Mansfield Library. To discuss giving opportunities to benefit the University Libraries, please contact Bonnie Allen.

Honor and Memorial Gifts
"Books in Honor" is a wonderful way to mark any occasion --a graduation, retirement, anniversary, or birthday -- and provides an opportunity for thoughtful memorial gifts. You can recognize a family member, faculty member, colleague or friend while helping to build strong collections at the Mansfield Library.

Gifts of $50 or more can be used to purchase books, serials, media, and electronic resources. Each purchase is recognized with a commemorative gift plate, noting your name and the occasion for your contribution. An electronic gift plate is also noted in the library catalog. We notify the honoree of your gift (or the family, for memorial gifts) but do not disclose the amount of your gift.

Endowments
A gift that knows no end -- that is the benefit of endowment giving. With an endowment gift, the principal is invested and the library receives a percentage of the earned income each year. You can contribute to one of several existing endowments that have been created by generous donors, or you can establish your own in your name or in the name of someone you wish to honor.

Gifts of any size are welcomed to endowments now in place. A gift of $25,000 or more can establish a new permanent endowment. Endowments can be for a specific purpose, such as building library collections in a field or discipline of your choice, or be designated "Opportunity Funds" to provide for the greatest needs as determined by the Dean. Current endowment priorities focus on media, women's studies, literature of the New West, and technology. Gifts can be made over a period of years. Your generosity will be recognized on the library's Wall of Honor. Purchases from endowment earnings will receive a gift plate and will also be acknowledged electronically in the library catalog. The benefits of your investment in the library are shared with you each year as we update you on endowment growth and annual spending.

Future Gifts
As you plan for major commitments and estate giving, there are gift opportunities that can provide benefits to you and the Mansfield Library. These gifts may involve financial assets, gifts of materials, or both. Gifts to consider include cash or marketable securities, deferred gifts committed now such as gift annuities and trusts, and bequests through your will. We will help you and your financial advisor explore the benefits.

Gifts of Materials
Gifts of materials (including books, journals, art, artifacts, and memorabilia) are an important part of the Mansfield Library collections. Over the years, we have worked with donors to make their treasured items available to a broader community.

We encourage inquiries about gifts of materials from all prospective donors. Librarians and archivists will work with donors to acquire appropriate materials and resources to assist in processing them. We are, however, strictly prohibited from appraising items or collections.

Matching Gifts
We appreciate and encourage your use of corporate matching gift programs which may be available to you.

Your Gifts are Tax-Deductible
All gifts to the Mansfield Library, made through The University of Montana Foundation or the Friends of the Mansfield Library, are tax-deductible within IRS rules and regulations. All gifts are recorded in the Foundation's development records and are formally acknowledged with a receipt.

Thank you for your interest in supporting the Mansfield Library and those we serve.
