The Ural-Altaic family consists of languages spoken in Europe, the Near East and across central Asia all the way to the Pacific coast. Most linguists now include 3 branches in this family: Uralic, Altaic, and Koreo-Japanese, although there remains some question as to the relatedness of the latter. Uralic is divided into the Finno-Ugric (or Finno-Ugrian) and Samoyed(e) sub-branches. Finno-Ugric is further divided into Finnic (which includes a number of languages, the best-known being Finnish) and Ugric, which includes Hungarian. The Altaic branch (also called Turco-Tartar) includes the Turkic, Mongolian, and Tungusic sub-branches.
Listed here are works about the Ural-Altaic family as a whole, as well as those which contain
information on too many Ural-Altaic languages to be listed under each separately.
