Essay Contest Guidelines:
Reading Lolita in Tehran: A Memoir in Books encourages us to think about cultural and religious differences and the role of literature and art in our lives. The people that Nafisi writes about represent conservative and religious, as well as progressive and secular, groups in Iran. They bring their own perspectives to the study of literature and their understanding of events that are happening to them.
We invite all incoming first-year students to participate in The University of Montana 2004 First-Year Reading Experience Essay Contest.
