Oral Histories
Since 1968, the Mansfield Library has collected over 2,000 tapes of oral history interviews. Interview subjects are mostly western Montanans, and include smokejumpers, members of the Boone and Crockett Club, faculty and staff of The University of Montana, and Montana politicians. Most of the tapes also have transcripts or summaries. Both the tapes and the transcripts circulate and may be duplicated.
Transcripts of the Bob Wolf Oral History Collection, which concerns public land and wilderness issues in the 1950s-1980s, are available online. Tapes from the collection (OH 227) may be checked out from the Mansfield Library.
Information on other oral history tapes and transcripts may be found by searching the library catalog, or you may contact us! for more information.
