Senator Mike Mansfield on the U.S. Capitol building steps, ca. 1950

Since 1968 the Mansfield library has collected over 3,000 recorded interviews with individuals. Interview subjects are mostly Western Montanans and the topics are wide-ranging. Some of the larger collections (those with the most interviewees) focus on the depression in Montana, the history of smokejumping, Montana’s feminists, the University of Montana, and Montana politics and politicians. Most interviews have transcripts and almost all are cataloged; records are available by using the ‘Search Archives & Special Collections Box’ on the home page.
