BMS - FAQ

BMS Frequently Asked Questions

What are your hours?

BMS is open Monday thru Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Items are not received or processed on weekends or University holidays.

How do you decide which items to process first?

Items are processed in the order in which they are received. If an item requires special treatment, such as additional binding or cataloging work, processing may take longer.

What if I find an item in the catalog, and it says "On Order" or "In Process"? Can I still get that item?

If an item is in the catalog, but is in the status of "On Order," a hold can be placed on that item, and it will be rush processed as soon as the library receives it. Once we receive an item that has a rush request, it is usually ready in 2-3 business days.

If an item is in the catalog, but is in the status of "In Process," it means that we have the item in the building. You may place a hold on that item, and it will be moved to the 'head of the line' and rush processed for you. Once we receive a hold request the item is usually ready in 2-3 business days.

If an item is in the catalog, and it has a status of "In Process" with a date that goes back months or years, please check the shelf and/or ask Circulation to put a trace on the item first. Most of the time, the item is on the shelf, and was inadvertently not checked in when processing was finished.

What if I have a project for BMS?

If you have a project or require our services please use the Project Proposal Form.
